car rental for 22 year old

Hello,

My boyfriend and I are going to California for 9 days in June.We would like to rent a car for the time of our stay.We will be landing in Los Angeles.

When I looked at the prices I realised that under 25s

get charged extra on daily basis.We will be on budget as this is a part of our round the world trip so don't want to spend too much.

Would anyone have any recommendations for us for a cheap car rental company without surcharges with a good reputation?

They all will add surcharges if you are 22 year old, even if you find something cheap online, they probably will add a fee(just call it different) once you are in there office

People from the UK typically find that they do best getting an "all-in" rental (including all insurance) from a UK company like www.yescarhire.com -- there's another one that people use too but I don't remember their name. You must have insurance when renting in the US and this will be very expensive to buy at the counter

What other cities are you visiting? It might be less expensive to fly between cities than drive, especially if you plan to drop the car at a location other than the one at which you pick it up (which would subject you to an extra fee). There is also the cost of petrol to consider.

The rates aren't bad right now at GoAlamo.com, even when you add in the $25 per day underage charge.

Considering that the rates for UK citizens include all the insurances and fees and taxes....300 pounds is not bad.

If you find lower rates , be sure to compare apples to apples. Some quotes won't include the insurances that are required for foreigners and you will be hit with these charges upon pickup.

Hi,

do you happen to know if the charges are $25 with all companies or can it be less than that?

We were looking to spend a bit les than 300 pounds.

We are going to New Zeland before coming to California and a car hire for 15 days costs about 150 pounds there with a budget company so we didn't expect it to be more expensive in US for a shorter period of time.

It's just surprising,that's all.

I just got a mid-sized car for $20 a day from Hertz on Priceline in spite of the fact that I got the priceline message that my bid was too low. It might be worth a try.

Hello HopSkipJump!

We want to go to San Diego,Las Vegas,want to see Grand Canyon and Sedona.

We do like the freedom you have when you have a car and can stop anywhere you like.Also we are going to do so many flights in our 2 months long round the world trip that we thought it would just be too much.

We are dropping off in Los Angeles so no extra charges there.

Than you for your suggestion though!

Is there something else to see nerby? Apart from the places I metioned?

Try Enterprise Car Rental. When I used to visit LA and rent a car, I remember their rates and under 25 fees being pretty reasonable. I believe they only charge $10/day for underage drivers.
